What is depression?
To anyone who has or as suffered with depression this may seem like a silly and simple question but to those who have not here’s the low down. Having depression is quite simply the silent killer, depression is a mental health illness and having it doesn’t make you any less of a person although it makes you feel worthless and useless. I once spoke to a therapist regarding my own mental health and the way they described it was spot on, Life is a rainbow when your young its full of colours and you find more and more as you grow up and when something bad/negative happens in your life your rainbow gains a black band though the middle and the more negative impacts you have on your life the band grows. And the rainbow is your emotional field some days its all bright and happy and the next you could be in this black band where everything is dark and horrible. I was told to picture the rainbow with the black band though it when I was feeling down and to remember I will be back into the colours in no time and the black band is only a small section of my life.
Having depression is mentally exhausting as your always thinking…. Your lost in your own mind and no way to escape! You isolate yourself from family and friends and work, then your left alone with your thoughts and this is the dangerous silent killer. The best way to describe depression is to imagine been trapped in a cave, dark and been reminded of all the bad things in life and negative situations! With no way out your left with the dreaded option many decide to take which is suicide. 😭
I try and make an attempt for people to understand so they know how someone is feeling who suffers with mental health illness. The best advice I can give is firstly contact your GP and make an appointment even the discussion and telling someone helps then any medication and treatment that follows will put you on the correct path. My second would be to then speak to family and friends, this can be hard but they love you and will support you and understand your situation. Third and last is to try and get out and have a walk or run to clear your mind and keep healthy.
I have a open door policy to anyone who suffers with mental health, im happy to talk and help people though this. Sometimes just having someone you can text and let your anger, frustration, or sadness out on can be a great help.
